DataBee, from Comcast Technology Solutions, launches new innovations for enhanced threat monitoring and zero trust implementation
PHILADELPHIA - June 10, 2024 - DataBee ™, from Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS), today announced new capabilities in its DataBee Hive™ security, risk and compliance data fabric platform. DataBee EntityViews™, powered by a patent-pending entity resolution technology, introduces automated detection chaining that improves threat hunting, security detection fidelity, and insider risk monitoring. An enhanced set of ZTNA and SSE controls compliance dashboards accelerate zero trust compliance and provide greater performance insight to help reduce an organization's risk.
“The DataBee security data fabric platform provides such a rich foundation for building out new capabilities and use cases, and innovations like DataBee EntityViews and our entity resolution technology are changing the game when it comes to threat hunting and insider threat monitoring,” said Nicole Bucala, Vice President and General Manager of DataBee. “I’m also thrilled to see how we’ve been able to leverage our Continuous Controls Monitoring capabilities into zero trust compliance dashboards that provide comparable visibility into any gaps in zero trust deployments.”
Zero trust network access (ZTNA) and security service edge (SSE) platforms have a rich reservoir of log data and insights into users, devices, and application activities that often go untapped for advanced security analytics.
To address this gap, DataBee provides connected data that works for everyone by weaving ZTNA and SSE solution logs with additional security sources and business insights. DataBee ‘connects the dots’ with DataBee EntityViews, powered by a patent-pending entity resolution technology. This innovation delivers increased security alert fidelity and actionability by using rich insights from zero-trust deployments without the need to manually correlate entities.
DataBee EntityViews automated detection chaining creates a ‘super alert’ to suggest immediate action to help organizations confront threats and reduce risk. This new capability helps companies dealing with “so many alerts, so little detections” not miss stealthy, slow, and low attacks. Low or medium-level alerts and activities from different systems can be woven together by DataBee’s fabric and enriched with signals from the transformed dataset to produce a meaningful alert timeline. These capabilities can be applied across a broad set of detection use cases and make user behavioral monitoring more comprehensive, improving threat hunting and insider risk monitoring.
Businesses can also use DataBee to accelerate their zero trust architecture (ZTA) journey with a new set of ZTNA and SSE controls compliance dashboards that can track the deployment of zero trust controls for key users, applications, and devices and continuously monitor that they are performing to desired standards. The insights provide a consistent and more accurate record of users and devices that access resources, and where and when those resources are being accessed.
DataBee will be demonstrating its new DataBee EntityViews capability and ZTA compliance dashboards at AWS re:Inforce, taking place from June 10-12 in Philadelphia. DataBee is a Gold sponsor. In conjunction with AWS re:Inforce, DataBee, AWS, and Accenture are hosting an event called Philly Above the Clouds on June 11 from 4:00-7:00 pm. This event will feature two panels including a CISO panel, “Innovation from Within”, and a technology panel, “Data at the Speed of Innovation”. Registration for the event can be found here.

Comcast AdDelivery and Mediaocean Announce Mediaocean Optica
New York City, NY
Comcast AdDelivery and Mediaocean Announce Mediaocean Optica
New York, NY and Denver, CO, May 5, 2013 Comcast AdDelivery, a cloud-based solution for delivering spot television ads via Comcast’s 100G fiber backbone, and Mediaocean, the largest independent advertising technology company processing more than $130 billion across holding companies and agencies globally, have created a fully integrated ad management solution “Mediaocean Optica.”
Comcast’s AdDelivery system — which delivers spots electronically to 98% of all media destinations in the US, including local and national broadcast stations, national cable networks and syndicators, will integrate with Mediaocean Spectra management systems for TV planners and buyers - which power media management across all six major holding companies in North America. The integrated system brings AdDelivery data into Mediaocean’s Spectra systems, automating formerly labor-intensive manual processes and closing key informational and operational gaps between media and trafficking teams.
Matt McConnell, Senior Vice President and GM, Comcast Wholesale, said of the partnership: “As one of the country’s largest media companies engaged in national and local advertising sales, and a major advertiser, Comcast has a customer-driven focus on the solutions that it provides to advertisers and their agencies. This solution combines our content management capabilities with Mediaocean’s vast experience and scope of advertising management services to provide a cost effective and efficient solution for ad delivery.”
Mediaocean Optica is designed to help bridge the divide between TV media teams—which are responsible for deciding which ads run on which stations—and the creative and trafficking teams, which create ads and work with networks to ensure ads meet technical specifications of agencies and broadcasters. The solution brings innovation and automation to a segment of advertising currently marked by manual work and disconnected data management systems to integrate it with wider agency operations.
Mediaocean Optica will enable agencies to execute advertising campaigns with more efficiency and intelligence, benefitting agencies and advertisers alike. Ultimately, it will promote the holistic management across agency units, laying a critical framework for targeted, optimized TV advertising.
Nick Galassi, President, Agency Systems, Mediaocean, added: “Creating technology to align systems across every part of the agency, and between agencies and broadcasters, is consistent with Mediaocean’s track record for bringing disruptive technology to traditional markets. And with Comcast AdDelivery’s wide reach across broadcasters, unparalleled technology infrastructure, and world-class AdDelivery system, I can’t imagine a better partner to work with to bring this solution to the industry.”

Pac-12 Networks' Distribution Center at Comcast Wholesale Receives Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award
Centennial, CO
PAC-12 Networks’ new Distribution Center at Comcast Media Center (CMC) has been named the winner of the Network Automation category in the 12th Annual Broadcast Engineering Excellence Awards. This marks the third consecutive year that CMC has received top honors for its pioneering solutions for TV network origination.
The Award, which honors “the industry’s best examples of innovation, high-quality design, and construction,” will be presented by Broadcast Engineering magazine at the 2013 NAB Show on Monday morning, April 8 at its booth (North Hall – N5135). PAC-12 Networks’ Distribution Center at CMC will also be showcased in the magazine’s special March NAB edition.
As part of providing a broad range of technical distribution services for the Pac-12 Networks in collaboration with iN DEMAND, CMC launched seven new HD sports networks from a new environment at its Centennial Colorado facility. Known as the PAC-12 Distribution Center, this environment complements the PAC-12 Network Center in San Francisco. CMC also provides PAC-12 with occasional satellite and terrestrial fiber acquisition, feed record, media prep, content storage, compression/encryption and uplink services.
“We are particularly proud of this honor from Broadcast Engineering and our industry peers,” said Richard Buchanan, Vice President and General Manager, Content Solutions for Comcast Media Center. “The PAC-12 Distribution Center builds upon our expertise in supporting live sports origination to meet a number of complex challenges with solutions that are innovative, quality focused and highly efficient."
A design team comprised of members of CMC’s Broadcast Engineering, Operations and Software Solutions departments and PAC-12’s Technology and Programming units designed the Distribution Center in Denver to allow PAC-12 Networks’ San Francisco staff to produce and contribute file-based content, remotely schedule and segment feed records and to drive programmatic changes as necessary.
To support a flexible staffing model that could expand and contract in accordance with PAC-12’s live programming schedules, the team designed the origination environment to include one command and control master control station for managing scheduled playback of PAC-12 Conference programming and seven individual network live-event “pods” for supporting one national and six regional sports channels. To assist the command and control staff with situational awareness, CMC augmented its award-winning “Heads-Up Display” technology specific to the PAC-12 operation.
PAC-12’s Distribution Center at CMC acquires content from multiple sources, including file-based content from the Network Center in San Francisco, and commercial advertising systems, or scheduled feeds/live events delivered via dedicated fiber circuits set up between the Network Center, conference campuses and the Distribution Center in Denver. This fiber connectivity also allows the Distribution Center to perform disaster recovery for the PAC-12 Networks in the event the Network Center becomes unable to perform its regular functions.
The design addressed a number of challenges that were unique to the PAC-12 Networks’ operation, including the need for geographically diverse control over network automation, media asset management, signal routers and operations management. It also incorporates solutions that allow PAC-12 to sell unique advertising on each of its seven sports networks while airing both common and unique events.
Comcast Media Center’s West Works Studios unit also won an Excellence Award this year, in the Post and Network Production Facilities for the re-design and upgrade of its five production studios and 12 nonlinear edit rooms.
This marked the third consecutive year that CMC’s Broadcast Engineering and Operations teams have won the top Excellence Award in the station automation category. CMC won an award in last year’s competition for its design of the NHL Network’s new network operations facility at the CMC and the previous year for its Multichannel Program Origination facility

West Works Studios Wins Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award
Denver, CO
Takes First Place in Post and Network Production Facilities Category: Station Automation
Comcast Media Center’s West Works Studios™ unit has been named a winner of the Post and Network Production Facilities Category in the 12th Annual Broadcast Engineering Excellence Awards. The Award, which honors “the industry’s best examples of innovation, high-quality design, and construction,” will be presented by Broadcast Engineering magazine at the 2013 NAB Show on Monday morning, April 8 at its booth (North Hall – N5135). West Works Studio’s operations will also be showcased in the magazine’s special March NAB edition.
West Works Studios, formerly known as CMC Production Services, refreshed its five production studios and 12 nonlinear edit rooms in 2012 by upgrading its enterprise-level edit system and optimizing the facility’s operational footprint. The upgrade has allowed West Works Studios to meet the increased volume of services offered to its clients, which include independent film makers, television production companies and Fortune 500 companies. Bolstered by the State of Colorado’s new film and video incentive program, the more client-friendly “boutique” environment has also allowed West Works Studios to become more competitive in the national marketplace.
“We are honored by the recognition from Broadcast Engineering and our industry peers for the innovative design and technology choices represented by our new production and postproduction facilities," said Paul C. Catterson, Comcast Media Center’s Senior Director of Broadcast Engineering.
Added Catterson, who oversees West Works Studios, “I am particularly proud of what this recognitions means for our in-house management team, which includes Engineering Manager Robert Baker, West Works Studios’ Operations Manager Todd Smoots, and Production Engineers Judy Bandstra, Kerry Hart and Tom Wise. We are also grateful to Bruce Jones and Rich Griffin from Avid and Bruce Harvey from Wise Guyz Global Integration for their invaluable assistance on this project.”
As part of the multifaceted upgrade and relocation project, the legacy edit rooms were relocated to position them closer to the facility’s main entrance and client services such as the commissary, conference rooms and business offices. The rooms were optimized for audio sweetening, music composition and voice-overs, with lounge-like comfort. Two of the edit suites were constructed as multi-function edit (video and audio edit) using ProTools systems, each with a look into the 200sq-ft “quiet room” — a floating floor, mechanically-isolated space. An Avid Isis 7000 system (running Interplay 2.5, Symphony 6.0 and four multichannel Airspeeds) was provisioned to allow direct-to-disc ingest and edit-on-the-fly in a newsroom-style capture-and-edit workflow.
With the enterprise-level integration provided in this installation, editors, producers, content capture staff and management all have per-mission-based access and viewing into the total system. Resource and content sharing allows an editor to complete an end-to-end capture-and-edit without having to physically travel to another side of the operation — or “wait in line” to use a pooled resource.
Comcast Media Center’s Content Solutions unit also won an Excellence Award, for the third consecutive year, taking home top honors in the Awards’ Network Automation category for its work in designing and building the PAC-12 Distribution Center.

HITS Launches Next Generation Of Platform To Support Independent Cable Operators
Denver, CO
NCTC Members Sign On for Upgraded Services
Denver, Colo - February 25, 2013- HITS®, a wholly owned subsidiary of Comcast Cable, today announced a significant upgrade, known as “Q2,” to the HITS Quantum™ Platform. The next generation of the platform which supports existing MPEG-2 infrastructure, includes converting several HITS standard definition (SD) transponders to DVB-S2 technology, increasing the number of HD services offered in MPEG 2, and delivering the entire programming lineup via a single satellite.
The HITS Q2 upgrade illustrates the company’s continued commitment to innovating for industry-prevalent MPEG-2 technology. Q2 improves the efficiency of MPEG-2 services offered by HITS, helping operators to utilize their existing technology as well as update their equipment at significantly less cost than other plant upgrade options. This helps operators maintain competitive service levels with minimal capital investment.
HITS and the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) recently renewed their agreement to offer the next generation of the HITS platform to their members. The majority of participating NCTC members have already opted-in to the new deal for enhanced HITS satellite services. Several programming groups have also signed on to the upgraded platform.
“For 17-years, HITS has remained committed to improving how we meet the needs of the independent cable operator. We have continually refined the platform to provide cable operators with more cost-effective solutions for increasing their competitive edge, adopting new technologies and expanding their digital video revenue opportunities,” said Leslie Russell, Vice President and General Manager for HITS. “Q2 leverages next-generation technology that allows our affiliates to add more programming and reduce bandwidth consumption without rebuilding their headends or replacing CPE.”
Rich Fickle, NCTC President and CEO, said: “We are glad to renew our 17-year relationship with HITS that enables NCTC members to provide digital video services economically.”
The upgrade begins in the second quarter of 2013. When it concludes, over 70% of the HITS Quantum multiplexes will be using 256 QAM DVB-S2 technology. This technology enables cable operators to add more SD and HD signals using fewer satellite receivers with their existing customer premise equipment (CPE), and to free up to 25% of their bandwidth for new services. In addition, the upgrade provides a cost-effective solution for cable systems looking to convert any remaining analog channels to digital using their existing MPEG-2 architecture. New MPEG-2 HD services are planned for the second half of 2013.
HITS will be available at the NCTC Winter Education Conference (Booth #418), February 25-26, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV to provide additional details.
