DataBee, from Comcast Technology Solutions, launches new innovations for enhanced threat monitoring and zero trust implementation
PHILADELPHIA - June 10, 2024 - DataBee ™, from Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS), today announced new capabilities in its DataBee Hive™ security, risk and compliance data fabric platform. DataBee EntityViews™, powered by a patent-pending entity resolution technology, introduces automated detection chaining that improves threat hunting, security detection fidelity, and insider risk monitoring. An enhanced set of ZTNA and SSE controls compliance dashboards accelerate zero trust compliance and provide greater performance insight to help reduce an organization's risk.
“The DataBee security data fabric platform provides such a rich foundation for building out new capabilities and use cases, and innovations like DataBee EntityViews and our entity resolution technology are changing the game when it comes to threat hunting and insider threat monitoring,” said Nicole Bucala, Vice President and General Manager of DataBee. “I’m also thrilled to see how we’ve been able to leverage our Continuous Controls Monitoring capabilities into zero trust compliance dashboards that provide comparable visibility into any gaps in zero trust deployments.”
Zero trust network access (ZTNA) and security service edge (SSE) platforms have a rich reservoir of log data and insights into users, devices, and application activities that often go untapped for advanced security analytics.
To address this gap, DataBee provides connected data that works for everyone by weaving ZTNA and SSE solution logs with additional security sources and business insights. DataBee ‘connects the dots’ with DataBee EntityViews, powered by a patent-pending entity resolution technology. This innovation delivers increased security alert fidelity and actionability by using rich insights from zero-trust deployments without the need to manually correlate entities.
DataBee EntityViews automated detection chaining creates a ‘super alert’ to suggest immediate action to help organizations confront threats and reduce risk. This new capability helps companies dealing with “so many alerts, so little detections” not miss stealthy, slow, and low attacks. Low or medium-level alerts and activities from different systems can be woven together by DataBee’s fabric and enriched with signals from the transformed dataset to produce a meaningful alert timeline. These capabilities can be applied across a broad set of detection use cases and make user behavioral monitoring more comprehensive, improving threat hunting and insider risk monitoring.
Businesses can also use DataBee to accelerate their zero trust architecture (ZTA) journey with a new set of ZTNA and SSE controls compliance dashboards that can track the deployment of zero trust controls for key users, applications, and devices and continuously monitor that they are performing to desired standards. The insights provide a consistent and more accurate record of users and devices that access resources, and where and when those resources are being accessed.
DataBee will be demonstrating its new DataBee EntityViews capability and ZTA compliance dashboards at AWS re:Inforce, taking place from June 10-12 in Philadelphia. DataBee is a Gold sponsor. In conjunction with AWS re:Inforce, DataBee, AWS, and Accenture are hosting an event called Philly Above the Clouds on June 11 from 4:00-7:00 pm. This event will feature two panels including a CISO panel, “Innovation from Within”, and a technology panel, “Data at the Speed of Innovation”. Registration for the event can be found here.

Comcast Technology Solutions Launches DataBee Platform to Enable Large Enterprises to Effectively Manage Enterprise Security, Risk, and Compliance
PHILADELPHIA – April 18 – Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS) delivers Comcast technology to the world, and today announced the launch of DataBee™, a cloud-native data fabric for security, risk and continuous controls monitoring. DataBee enables large enterprises to quickly perform multiple security functions, including identifying potential cybersecurity threats to help protect systems, data, and enterprise users. Snowflake, the Data Cloud company, is a strategic partner in the development and launch of DataBee, which operates on the Snowflake Data Cloud, where data is stored, processed, and analyzed.
DataBee is offered by a newly created cybersecurity business unit within CTS focused on delivering Comcast-developed enterprise-level security innovations to market. Evolved from the platform originally designed and deployed by Comcast’s cybersecurity team, DataBee was created to better operationalize and optimize security data to help improve threat responses and cybersecurity oversight. With a focus on the critical data elements that come from across the entire security data pipeline, DataBee weaves together disparate security data from various technologies and architectures into a single fabric where it is standardized, usable, and searchable for analyses, monitoring, and reporting at scale.
DataBee spans security, risk, privacy, and security controls compliance missions with use cases in advanced threat detection, threat hunting, continuous controls assurance, SIEM decoupling, behavioral analysis, and more.
“The security data fabric has changed the way we do security, supporting multiple detection and compliance functions across our organization, while improving effectiveness, reducing complexity, and helping us avoid costs,” said Noopur Davis, EVP, Chief Information Security and Product Privacy Officer, Comcast Cable. “For a company with an incredible amount of security data to review and analyze—roughly 10 petabytes—our platform truly advances state-of-the-art cybersecurity for Comcast, our customers, and the industry. When new threats or malware are discovered, we can now identify and act on indicators of compromise within minutes.”
DataBee is now externally available for commercial use, utilizing Snowflake’s ability to remove data silos and enable DataBee’s robust analytics to achieve advanced security analysis, decisioning, response, and security controls assurance outcomes. The combination of Comcast’s and Snowflake’s technologies enable joint customers to combat threat behaviors and stay on top of compliance challenges in the continuously evolving cyber threat landscape. As a part of the Powered by Snowflake program, Comcast is able to develop, scale, and operate DataBee on Snowflake’s security data lake, delivering a differentiated product to the enterprise space.
“Working with Snowflake to bring the benefits of our security data fabric to our mutual customers has enormous potential to improve cybersecurity outcomes and facilitate an open security data fabric,” said Nicole Bucala, VP and GM of DataBee, Comcast.
“It’s been incredible to watch the security organization at Comcast harness the power of Snowflake for their mission, at their scale,” said Omer Singer, Head of Cybersecurity Strategy, Snowflake. “With Comcast making years of development and expertise available to Snowflake customers directly in their Snowflake accounts, security data lake initiatives at many large enterprises will be dramatically accelerated.”
With DataBee, large-enterprise customers have a Comcast solution providing visibility and analysis into their cybersecurity data to combat threats and stay on top of security compliance challenges across their organizations. Comcast Technology Solutions enables intelligent, dynamic ad insertion within national, linear, addressable tv programming
DENVER – May 3, 2022– Comcast Technology Solutions, a division of Comcast Cable that provides media and entertainment technology to content providers, operators and advertisers, today announced the launch of its national linear addressable advertising service for customers and technology partners.
Addressable advertising, which enables households watching the same national TV shows to see different ads that are more relevant and targeted, poses challenges for creative management and control. Called Linear Rights Metadata Management (LRM), this industry offering from Comcast Technology Solutions is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) that helps insert and manage metadata, leveraging SCTE 224 to provide integrated workflows that enable intelligent ad decisioning for targeted household-level TV advertising.
Used effectively, SCTE 224 is a standard notification interface that can present richer linear metadata in a consistent way to trigger linear addressable ads–alleviating the complexity and inconsistency from manual data entry, from multiple sources, in multiple formats. LRM provides the signaling, advanced metadata communication, and assurance technology required for intelligent addressability in ad breaks.
Specifically, LRM ingests and aggregates the metadata of advertising assets, normalizes it into SCTE 224 format, and stores it in the cloud. SCTE 224 data is then distributed to multiple endpoints, ad decision managers, and software adapters. In addition to ad selection, LRM helps implement and enforce advertising rules and restrictions, such as unique ad requirements per MVPD, vMVPD, or content aggregator; showing a specific number of ads or limiting the number of spots over a certain duration for a specific product group; specifying the minimum spacing between ads belonging to a specific product group; and more. For example, a national beverage ad from one brand can be shown via one household, but not a different household. Rules can specify that only four beverage ads can be played over the course of a specific program, or that a beverage ad can only be played in one in every four ad pods.
Through Comcast Advertising, Comcast is the first national TV distributor to implement LRM for this purpose.
“We now have the technical capabilities to make linear addressable execution and management a reality for operators, programmers, and advertisers around the globe,” said Bart Spriester, Vice President and General Manager of the Content and Streaming Providers Suite for Comcast Technology Solutions. “We are removing many of the manual processes and variations around metadata that have historically hampered the progress of implementing linear addressable ads. We’re confident that the combination of LRM and our Advertising Suite can help play a central role in accelerating addressable TV.”’
“At Comcast Advertising, we’re fully committed to accelerating the growth of addressable TV and making it easier for advertisers to incorporate it into their campaigns,” said Larry Allen, Vice President and General Manager, Data and Addressable Enablement, Comcast Advertising, the advertising division of Comcast Cable. “LRM, along with Comcast Technology Solutions’ expertise in implementing SCTE 224, will provide operators, programmers, and advertisers with the backend technology needed to seamlessly drive scale and simplify the advertising workflow.”
“Delivering TV ads that are more relevant for viewers, at higher premiums, is a common goal shared across the industry,” said Marija Masalskis, senior principal analyst for TV, Video and Advertising at Omdia. “For years, wide-scale addressable TV has been more of an elusive idea than a viable reality. However, recent progress in linear metadata management, back-end automation, and industry-wide collaboration should all serve to accelerate the deployment of addressable TV at scale.”
Beyond LRM, Comcast Technology Solutions offers the Advertising Suite, which is being used by programmers to support upcoming addressable advertising deployments. The Advertising Suite provides centralized management of creative ad inventory and streamline workflows automatically. It delivers a comprehensive solution for addressable ad management, personalization, ad intelligence and scalability, giving customers the visibility and control needed to optimize ROI on addressable TV campaigns.

Comcast Technology Solutions Wins 2022 NAB Show Product of the Year Award for VideoAI
Denver, CO — April 29, 2022 – Comcast Technology Solutions, a division of Comcast Cable that provides media and entertainment technology to content providers, operators, and advertisers, announced today that its VideoAI™ service was named a winner in the 2022 NAB Show Product of the Year Awards under the AI/Machine Learning category. This official awards program recognizes the most significant and promising new products and technologies showcased by corporate partners of NAB Show.
VideoAI is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) that can help companies understand and analyze video (live and on-demand), audio, and closed captions to create actionable metadata around content assets, generate and manage new content, improve advertising efficiency, and streamline operations.
VideoAI is based on commercial-scale implementations created and deployed by Comcast, NBCUniversal, and Sky. Comcast Technology Solutions now provides this capability to the broader media and entertainment industry as a fully managed, 24x7 service. Customers can use VideoAI to analyze their video assets to identify and tag key onscreen moments (hard cuts, black frames, transitions, etc.); audio events (silence, specific sounds, etc.), and much more to support enhanced understanding of video content.
The underlying technology for VideoAI has been applied across millions of video assets to create such features as metadata segmentation for dynamic ad insertion (DAI); segmentation detection, such as detecting intros, credit rolls, auto-chaptering; and creating automated on-screen highlight reels during live sporting events. With VideoAI, content owners, operators, and advertisers can now work with Comcast Technology Solutions to develop their own business use cases and deploy them using a secure, flexible, and ready-to-use service.
NAB Show Product of the Year Award Winners were selected by a panel of industry experts in 15 categories and announced in a live awards ceremony at NAB Show on April 26. To be eligible for an award, nominated products had to come from companies exhibiting at the 2022 NAB Show and are delivered within the 2022 calendar year.
“The 2022 NAB Show Product of the Year Awards honor innovative breakthroughs that will change the way the media and entertainment industry creates, connects and capitalizes content,” said NAB Executive Vice President of Global Connections and Events Chris Brown. “We congratulate Comcast Technology Solutions on this award in recognition of its VideoAI service, and its potential to help storytellers meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
“We are extremely honored that our VideoAI service was recognized as one of the most innovative products at the 2022 NAB Show,” said Bart Spriester, Vice President and General Manager of the Content and Streaming Providers Suite for Comcast Technology Solutions. “With VideoAI as a managed service, companies can quickly launch a range of AI-powered video services at scale to drive their business objectives forward. At Comcast Technology Solutions, we’re relentlessly focused on helping our customers understand and deliver their content in new ways, improve workflow efficiency, and drive automation. This prestigious industry recognition validates that VideoAI is a technological advancement on all those fronts.”
VideoAI can be used with or without the Comcast Technology Solutions Cloud Video Platform and Direct-to-Consumer Suite. Additional information about Comcast Technology Solutions’ VideoAI is available here.

Metrological Unveils Lightning™ Partner Program
Program includes tracks for app development firms as well as individual developers to serve as part of a global network of resources for TV operators and content providers
Aims to accelerate the development and deployment of high performant Lightning-based TV apps and UXs
Metrological reach now exceeds 80 million households across operator networks worldwide
Rotterdam, Netherlands – March 23, 2022 – Metrological, a Comcast Company, today unveiled its new Lightning Partner Program. The program provides TV operators and content providers a worldwide network of resources to help bring high-performing Lightning-based TV apps and UXs to market faster and cost efficiently. The program will further drive Lightning as a key global standard for TV app and UX development.
Lightning™ is an open-source, lightweight framework and Software Development Kit (SDK) for developing high-quality UX and TV apps with great performance. It provides native-like user experiences for high-performant, browser-based TV apps on next-gen set-top boxes, as well as memory constrained legacy devices. Lightning reduces the complexity of designing, developing, onboarding, and maintaining apps across devices. A single Lightning app can be deployed across TV operators, OTT platforms, smart TVs, and streaming devices, which reduces costs and time-to-market.
Metrological’s Lightning Program consists of two tracks: the “Lightning Partner Program” and the “Lightning Developer Program”. Specifically, the “Lightning Partner Program” designation is for select app development firms, recognized by Metrological to have displayed consistent expertise with the Lightning development framework and SDK. Today, the program launched exclusively with its first two Lightning Community Partners: TV2Z and Amdocs. Additional companies are expected to gain accreditation in the coming months. Inclusion in the Lightning Partner Program is by invite-only. Companies must have successfully deployed Lightning-based apps in the Metrological App Library and contribute new Lightning apps annually. Additionally, companies must have at least one Lightning-Certified Developer employed or under contract and meet Metrological’s quality standards.
The “Lightning Developer Program” track is designed for individual developers. Those participating in the program will gain recognition as a Metrological Certified Lightning Developer, demonstrating their proven ability to develop highly optimized TV apps, offering a competitive edge as they join more than 100 developers who currently hold this industry-recognized skill. Individuals will be able to receive accreditation by completing the 3-day Lightning Training Program, led by Credersi, Metrological’s preferred Lightning Training partner.
“We are extremely excited to launch our Lightning Program, beginning with Community Partners Amdocs and TV2Z, and an existing talent pool of more than 100 individual developers,” said Greg Riker, head of the Lightning Partner Program for Metrological. “The program creates a specialized community of trusted and experienced TV app development firms and app developers. Our TV operator and content provider customers can leverage this network to speed up development for Lightning-based apps, and reduce development and maintenance costs. As such, we are pleased that TV operators will be able to source more state-of-the-art Lightning-based TV apps from the Metrological App Library as the community grows.”
“At TV2Z we are committed to helping TV operators and content owners provide the best possible digital experiences on any platform around the world,” said Wouter Schreur, CEO of TV2Z. “We are honored to be named a Community Partner in Metrological’s Lightning Partner Program for our ability to deliver high-performant, browser-based TV apps across next-gen and legacy devices. As part of the program, we are excited to help captivate audiences with new and exciting Lightning apps.”
“We’re pleased to be a launch partner in Metrological’s Lightning Partner Program, which recognizes our expertise in helping content and service providers deliver ground-breaking digital and video offerings,” said Anthony Goonetilleke, Group President of Technology and Head of Strategy at Amdocs. “Collaborating with Metrological, we are excited about the possibilities of re-imaging the future of content, and bringing our global expertise to empower superior customer experiences.”
Lightning Community Partners and Certified Developers will benefit from access to the Lightning Community and resources therein, enhanced email support and the right to market themselves with the associated accreditation or partner level. In addition, Lightning Community Partners will benefit from joint marketing programs and be listed as a partner on the Metrological website.
With the Metrological Application Platform, TV operators can choose content from the Metrological App Library, consisting of premium OTT services, as well as niche and localized TV apps. The Lightning Partner Program is designed to enrich the Metrological App Library with even more high-quality Lightning-based apps. The Metrological Application Platform is deployed at multiple Tier 1 cable and telco companies globally. The company today disclosed that it now offers a cross-operator reach to more than 80 million households worldwide through the Metrological Application Platform.
To be considered for inclusion in the Lightning Partner Program, or for questions, contact Metrological’s Lightning Partner Team. Developers can sign up for the Lightning Training to become a Metrological Certified Lightning Developer at Credersi.
