Lay the groundwork now for advanced analytics and AI
Proper data integration, modeling, and maintenance make up the unglamorous but necessary foundation for high-impact analytics and AI applications. Without it, data is too hard to access and, even if can be analyzed, will deliver inaccurate results.
When global technology company Lenovo started utilizing data analytics, they helped identify a new market niche for its gaming laptops, and powered remote diagnostics so their customers got the most from their servers and other devices.
Comcast is using data analytics to reduce the cost, and improve the efficacy of, its 10P byte of security data to better understand attacks, respond more effectively, and improve its ability to predict future threats.
And at First Commerce Bank, EVP and COO Gregory Garcia hopes to leverage unified, real-time data to monitor risks such as worsening vacancy rates that could make it harder for commercial property owners to pay their mortgages.
But reaching all these goals, as well as using enterprise data for generative AI to streamline the business and develop new services, requires a proper foundation. That hard, ongoing work includes integrating siloed data, modeling, and understanding it, as well as maintaining and securing it over time.

Women Reshaping The Cybersecurity Industry
The cybersecurity industry has become so essential and exciting. What is coming around the corner? What are the concerns we should keep an eye out for? How does one succeed in the cybersecurity industry? As a part of this interview series we had the pleasure of interviewing Nicole Bucala.
Nicole Bucala is a cybersecurity executive who specializes in launching innovative product lines and driving growth through strategic partnerships. She has held strategy and operations, strategic alliances and business development leadership positions at VC-backed startups as well as larger public and private-equity-backed global cybersecurity vendors, demonstrating a unique ability to bring order to chaos, and agility to process. She currently leads CTS’ Cybersecurity BU as Vice President and General Manager, where she is in charge of the overall development and commercialization of Comcast’s security data fabric platform. Prior to Comcast, she held senior leadership or executive roles at Zscaler, Illusive Networks and RSA Security. Before entering commercial cybersecurity, she founded and served as CEO of MIFCOR, an early-stage biotechnology startup, and began her career serving her country by conducting counterterrorism operations for the U.S. government. The Key to Enhanced Security? Fixing Data Upstream
Managing security data at scale has been the dream of most security leaders. Attempts at making this dream come true have involved investing in security information and event management (SIEM) solutions to collect and analyze log and event data, deploying security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) solutions, or running AI/ML algorithms on top of data to try to develop answers and respond to key security or compliance questions faster.
But alas… the siloed security data created by the tools commonly found in a security operations center (SOC) remains difficult to wrangle and extract meaningful insights from. If only something could be done to truly integrate and clean up all that security data.
A security data lake is a big step in this direction.
In this article, Comcast Technology Solutions' DataBee business leader Nicole Bucala outlines specific steps security leaders can take to improve the quality of an organization’s underlying data set and develop a better strategy for managing security data at scale.

Security data lakes and the future of organizational security
Evolving technological advancements have created a far more data-centric world. This has dramatically changed the enterprise landscape, while also creating more data silos.
The explosion of cybersecurity tools and mounds of data in modern enterprises have made it difficult to combine data to create a unified view. This has resulted in siloed data that’s also costly to store, analyze, and quickly present. In addition, it creates a dangerous division of knowledge that can prevent security teams from spotting threats.

Empowering Diversity: Recognizing the Importance of Women in Engineering and Cybersecurity
The importance of women in engineering (beyond #WomeninEngineeringDay), particularly in the field of cybersecurity, cannot be overstated. Diversity and inclusion are essential for driving innovation, fostering creativity, and solving complex problems effectively. In the traditionally male-dominated field of engineering, women bring unique perspectives, experiences, and skills that enrich the industry and contribute to its advancement. By encouraging and supporting more women to pursue careers in engineering, we can tap into a vast talent pool and bridge the gender gap that has persisted for far too long.
